Still Life Analysis

Image
When I started to create my still-life drawing I first began developing rough drafts to see what composition I would want to use, such as diagonal. After finding the composition I wanted to do, I went to my good quality white paper and lightly sketched the outline of the three objects. Next, I started lightly shading in the shadows. After that, I kept on shading while increasing my pressure that I would put the pencil that I was using. Throughout my drawing, I did the left skull and then worked my way to the right, which eventually formed my L composition. By the end of it, I touched up my shadows and lightly erased a few of the lines that were too dark, if the lines were too dark it would interrupt my L composition I started with. I made this drawing a reverse L composition.

Old Graffiti Self Portrait

1. The art style I used for this assignment is traditional graffiti. 2. The reason why I chose this art style is because for a long time I've had a general love for it. Old or new does not matter to me. I love both. However, the main idea of my artwork is to express my childhood. The artwork was inspired by Jean-Michel Basquiat since it reminded me of a child's drawing .   As you can see in my artwork my arms are up, covering my face, which I also did in the actual picture. One of the reasons I did this was because I wanted to make myself look hidden. Secondly, it would be that I didn't like how my face was looking that day so I wanted to hide all theses imperfections (little did I know that it would not have mattered anyways). On the individual arms themselves, I made them different colours because in both periods of my life, childhood and now as a teenager. I've felt caught in the middle of the two spectrums of girl stereotypes and boy stereotypes since

Understanding Shutter Speed, Aperture and ISO

Image
Aperture: Selective Focus I used these two photos for selective focus because you can clearly see the background being blurry so the object or part of the object is in focus. Long /Wide Depth of Field I chose these photos for long depth of field because I think it shows clearly that even beyond that it's still in detail. Shutter Speed: Fast shutter speed I chose these photos because for example you can see on the second photo, in the middle of being popped having motion, frozen.  Slow Shutter Speed These two show slow shutter speed by the moving object being bury and the stilled object is in focus. ISO: Low ISO I chose these two for low ISO because you can clear image without any grainy spots in the image. High ISO These 2 photos show high ISO by being very grainy in the pictures, like nothing really being in focused.

Richard Avedon Documentary Answers

1. I can see what he means by complexity in Avedon's photos, by how every face is different with different light and shadow shows on the face. 2.What I think he was trying to achieve by having a white background so then you focus only on the face. As he said he was more fascinated by faces and the complexity of the face. To him, every face is a book to him and he's capturing a moment in that book. 3. My reflection on that statement is that once the photo is captured is stopped in time. It captures that moment in time, making stories/memories out of it

Pintrest Protrait Analysis

Pinterest Picture:  Lighting: The direction of the light is going towards the woman and the dog. In the picture, you can tell the picture was shot inside using artificial lighting and the woman was facing the camera having butterfly lighting.   Expression: The expression is very neutral making the focus more on the eyes. What this would say to the viewer Background: The background was shot inside in a studio. The relationship between the background and the subject is that the background is very plain and blurry making the subject be the entire focus.    Body Posture: The posture of the woman is very natural because she's leaning forward and has her arms around the dog. The length of the picture is a medium shot. The positioning of the subject connection to the relationship of the environment being the dog and the surrounding area would be that the subject is very close to the dog like they are one.  Eyes & Direction of gaze: The subject's eye
