Pinterest Image Critique
Description:
I found this aboriginal artwork that is called
Setting Sun by Marianne Nicolson. The art is shown by a sun set picture on the
wall and then a projection of some aboriginal figures on top of it. The lines
in the projected figures are thick but curvy with many shapes like circles,
triangles and rectangles. The colours she used in the art is the sun set being
warm colours and then black and some shades of grey over top.
Analysis:
I feel that there's no focal point in the art, but
if there were, it would be the sun set picture. The balance used in this artwork
is asymmetrical because of the projections has different lines on each
projection/figures. To me it’s a kind of hard to find where the light comes
from. But looking the artwork, the projector would have the most light on the
artwork. Plus all colours in the artwork have pretty dark colours in it. Then
the darkest part of the artwork would be the edges where there is no light
going on the wall.
Interpretation:
Everyone has a different interpretation/opinion on
anything. So I wouldn't know what the purpose of the artwork the artist of
trying to portray in her artwork. Looking at the picture it looks like
something about nature or when the sun goes down the spirits come out, because
of the projection figures in front of the picture.
Judgment:
I do like this artwork; the picture gives it a calming aspect while the
line figures make it the artwork catches your eye. So it's balanced that way,
making some imitationism (imitating nature) because of the sunset. Then there's
formalism (making the person aware of lines, shapes, colours or design) the
lined creatures.
